

Brent Murphy, a pharmacist, is managing director of Fine Pharmaceuticals. He obtained his degree at Rhodes University in 1992 and is a member of the Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa. He specialises in the research and development of complementary medicines and nutritional supplements. Brent also consults for various companies throughout South Africa on product formulations and design.
Brent sits on the executive council of the Health Products Association (HPA) of South Africa and serves on their technical and legal committee. He is chairman of the Speciality Nutraceuticals Working Group and is the founding member of the South African Academy of Anti-Ageing Medicine (SAAAAM), a non-profit educational and research organisation.
Brent lectures on nutraceuticals and herbal medicines -to doctors, pharmacists and homeopaths. He has lectured for the South African Complementary Medical Association (SACMA), the Link Academy, and the Exercise Trainers Academy (ETA) of South Africa, and has featured on numerous talks on radio and television.
In 2002 Brent presented papers at the 10th Annual Pharmaceutical Summit and at the annual congress of the South African Society for Integrative Medicine (SASIM).
Brent is also a member of the committee that is presently founding the Consumer Health Protection Authority of South Africa to protect the consumer from fraudulent claims on natural products.
He has written articles for newspapers, magazines and journals and has co-authored a reference book, MediCAMS. MediCAMS is a reference book for pharmacists and doctors, on the uses, side-effects and dosages of all the herbal remedies, homeopathics, natural medicines and dietary supplements available in South Africa.
